Transformation #4 Overcoming Avoidance Coping
We all have moments in life when the fear of failure becomes too overwhelming, and we often find ourselves resorting to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as avoidance. Avoidance allows our anxieties and worries to linger, hanging over us like a dark cloud that doesn’t seem to disperse. Until recently, this is what I was experiencing – contemplating new opportunities felt scary so instead, I avoided them completely which ultimately held me back from living my fullest life. In this step of becoming Roj, I want to share my story of facing those fears head-on, and overcoming avoidance to cope with positive outcomes. By processing the emotions attached to taking risks and…

Process Post #5
Editing plays a crucial role in the publishing process, shaping the final product that reaches the reader. This week, I gained a deeper appreciation for the art of editing during a lecture, realizing how each of us, consciously or unconsciously, is involved in the process of curating our online content. The lecture opened my eyes to the multitude of creative opportunities that come with the role of editor and curator. From evaluating content that aligns with a publisher’s goals and standards, to checking grammar and spelling, and adding alt text for accessibility, editors are instrumental in creating polished pieces that resonate with readers on both conscious and unconscious levels. I…

Peer Review #1
“Ashley Chia’s Two A.M. Thoughts: My Personal Review” Hi everyone! This week I had the chance to read Ashley Chia’s blog, Two Am Thoughts. In this post, I’ll be sharing my thoughts and personal review on Ashley’s blog. Thanks for reading! Two A.M. Thoughts/Home Page Introducing Ashley and her blog, “Two A.M. Thoughts” The About page of the website “Two A.M. Thoughts” is a great introduction to its author, Ashley. The page details that Ashley is a third-year Communication student at Simon Fraser University and that their best ideas often come to them at 2 A.M., though they know not all may be the best. The page goes on to say that Ashley loves…

Process Post #4
This week I read about the concept of a personal public and counter public, and it really got me thinking about my own audience. Who have I been imagining as I write my blog? How has that imaginary audience informed my blog decisions? It’s been interesting to reflect on how my perception of my audience has changed since I started writing this blog. At first, I imagined an audience of people who were seeking personal growth and self-affirmation, just like me. But as I’ve continued writing, I’ve realized that there is a much broader range of people who might be interested in what I have to say. So, going forward,…

Mini Assignment #2-Guest Post
Guest Post-Wonder Woman Wonder Woman is my ultimate favourite DC heroine! She’s an Amazonian warrior and a symbol of strength, courage, determination & justice. Her incredible powers inspire us to fight for what’s right in the face of adversity – a key message I try to emphasize in my self-improvement blog. On top of her fierce physicality is Wonder Woman’s heartwarming origin story, which champions love, kindness & understanding as core values we should all strive towards achieving – especially when writing posts about personal growth and empowerment. From Princess Diana to the powerful superhero that she is today, her journey inspires me in many ways – especially for staying strong and doing what’s right.…

Transformation #2-Changing My Path
Choose Your Own Path: How I Overcame Family Expectations to Follow My Dreams In a society that rules based on conformity, it can be tough to pursue your dreams. My dad always wanted me to be a doctor like the rest of my family. But I loved art and technology, so in my third year of university, I changed my major from Health Sciences to the Interactive Arts and Technology. It was a tough journey, but now everyone is impressed with how I followed my heart and became the person I want to be. If you’re feeling lost or stuck, know that it’s never too late to change and pursue…

Mini Assignment #1-Meme
I’m sure we’ve all seen the iconic Hide the Pain Harold meme and know how hilariously relatable it can be when it comes to any sort of struggle. So, when I decided to create a meme for my motivational blog, naturally I thought to myself “why not use that same template?”. The idea behind it was that even though I strive to motivate and inspire people with a blog about self-improvement, I still struggled with this task from time to time. This meme became my way of saying “hey, look. even I have trouble doing what I’m trying to encourage!” with a bit tongue in cheek humour. If you’re feeling…
